Bud Cauley grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, and was home-schooled while becoming the top-ranked junior golfer in the country. He played three years at Alabama, earning first-team All-America honors each season and was a Hogan Award finalist all three years. He also went undefeated in his matches for the winning 2009 U.S. Walker Cup team.
He turned pro after making the cut at the 2011 U.S. Open and earned his PGA Tour card that fall without going to qualifying school. In 2018 he was badly hurt in a car crash in Ohio, suffering broken ribs, a broken leg and a collapsed lung, and later complications kept him off tour from 2020 until 2024.
Cauley's comeback peaked at the 2026 RBC Canadian Open, which he won for his first PGA Tour title in his 239th start. He played only sporadically in the years after the crash before returning through a Korn Ferry Tour event in January 2024. His only other professional win came on the Web.com Tour in 2014.
