Chris Gotterup was born in Maryland and raised in Little Silver, New Jersey, where his father, a former college tennis player, was a decorated state amateur golfer. Gotterup stayed home to play at Rutgers, leaving with nearly every major school scoring record, then spent a final college year at Oklahoma, where he won both the Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the nation's best college player.
He turned pro in 2022, earned his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour and won the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic. His real arrival came at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, where he beat Rory McIlroy by two, followed by a third-place finish at the Open Championship a week later.
In 2026 he won the Sony Open, took the WM Phoenix Open in a playoff over Hideki Matsuyama and closed with a 62 to steal the John Deere Classic from five back. He climbed into the world top five and made his Presidents Cup debut for the United States in September.
