J.T. Poston is from Hickory, North Carolina, where he set a state high school tournament record with a 63 as a senior. He also won two individual state championships and a team title there. At Western Carolina, a smaller Division I program, he won six college events, including back-to-back Southern Conference titles.
With no status anywhere in 2016, he Monday-qualified into a Web.com Tour event and turned that into a full season and a PGA Tour card. His first win came at the 2019 Wyndham Championship, where he did not make a bogey all week, and he won the 2022 John Deere Classic wire to wire. He added the 2024 Shriners Children's Open and beat Ryan Gerard in a playoff to win the 2026 Memorial Tournament.
