Matt Fitzpatrick grew up in Sheffield, England, and supports his hometown club Sheffield United. He announced himself as a teenager, taking the 2012 Boys Amateur, earning the Silver Medal as leading amateur at the 2013 Open, and then winning the U.S. Amateur at The Country Club in Brookline. He spent a single autumn quarter playing college golf at Northwestern before leaving to chase a full amateur schedule.

After turning pro in mid-2014 he came through European Tour qualifying school and won the British Masters in his rookie year. A run of European titles followed, including multiple DP World Tour Championships in Dubai. His defining week came in 2022, when he returned to Brookline and won the U.S. Open on the same course where he had claimed the U.S. Amateur, a double only Jack Nicklaus had managed before him.

Known for a methodical, data-driven approach and tidy iron play, Fitzpatrick is enjoying the best stretch of his career. He beat Rory McIlroy in a playoff for the 2025 DP World Tour Championship, then won the Valspar and a second RBC Heritage in 2026, teamed with brother Alex to take the Zurich Classic, and added the French Open in September. He sits third in the world.
