Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay grew up in Los Alamitos, California, learning the game at Virginia Country Club under coach Jamie Mulligan, who still works with him. At UCLA he spent more than a year as the world's top-ranked amateur, swept the major national player of the year awards as a freshman, and shot 60 in a PGA Tour event at age 19.

He turned professional in 2012 and won on the Web.com Tour the next year, but a stress fracture in his back kept him out for most of the next three seasons. In 2016 he also witnessed the death of his caddie and close friend, Chris Roth, in a hit-and-run. He returned in 2017 and won that November in Las Vegas.

Cantlay is a patient, methodical player with a deliberate pace and an excellent putting stroke. His peak came in 2021, when he won the Memorial and BMW Championship and then the FedEx Cup. He defended the BMW title in 2022 and remains a fixture on U.S. Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams.
