Patrick Reed was born in San Antonio and grew up competing in Louisiana, winning the 2006 Junior Open Championship and leading his Baton Rouge high school to two state titles. He began college at Georgia but left after off-course trouble, transferring to Augusta State, where he helped win NCAA titles in 2010 and 2011.

He turned pro in 2011, Monday-qualified his way into PGA Tour starts and broke through at the 2013 Wyndham Championship. Early in 2014 he won the WGC-Cadillac Championship, becoming the youngest WGC winner, and his fiery Ryder Cup play earned him the nickname Captain America. His biggest title came at the 2018 Masters.

Reed joined LIV Golf in 2022, then announced in early 2026 that he was leaving to return to the PGA Tour. While waiting out his eligibility, he played the DP World Tour, winning the Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters to jump to the top of the Race to Dubai. He is known for a gritty short game.
