Sam Burns

Sam Burns comes from Shreveport, Louisiana, where he won three individual state titles in high school and was the AJGA's junior player of the year in 2014. At LSU he won four times in his sophomore season and took the Jack Nicklaus Award as the best player in Division I, before turning pro in the fall of 2017 rather than staying for more college golf.

He earned his first professional title at the 2018 Savannah Golf Championship on the Web.com Tour, birdieing the last three holes, and has held a PGA Tour card since. His breakthrough came at the 2021 Valspar Championship, which he defended a year later in a playoff. In between he won the Sanderson Farms, and at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge he erased a seven-shot deficit and beat Scottie Scheffler with a long playoff birdie putt.

Burns is regarded as one of the strongest putters on tour, and his match-play record backs it up: he won the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play by routing Cameron Young in the final. He has played for the U.S. in both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup, led the 2025 U.S. Open after 54 holes, and is ranked ninth in the world.
