Sepp Straka was born in Vienna to an Austrian father and an American mother and moved to Valdosta, Georgia, at 14. He and his twin brother Sam both played for the University of Georgia, where Sepp battled the short-game yips before graduating with a business degree. He turned pro in 2016 and spent time on PGA Tour Canada and the Web.com Tour.
Winning the 2018 KC Golf Classic helped make him the first Austrian to earn a PGA Tour card, and his 2022 Honda Classic win made him the first Austrian to win on that tour. He followed with the 2023 John Deere Classic and finished runner-up at the 2023 Open Championship, the best major result by an Austrian man.
A steady ball-striker with a calm temperament, Straka had his best season in 2025, winning The American Express and the Truist Championship and climbing to seventh in the world. He has represented Austria at two Olympics and played on Europe's winning Ryder Cup teams in 2023 and 2025. He plays the PGA Tour and DP World Tour and is ranked 36th.
