Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry grew up in Clara, County Offaly, the son of a Gaelic football All-Ireland winner, and learned the game at Esker Hills. He won the Irish Amateur Close in 2007 and played on Irish teams that won back-to-back European Amateur Team titles. In 2009, still an amateur and making his European Tour debut, he won the Irish Open in a playoff at County Louth.

He turned pro soon after and built steadily on the European Tour before winning the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, which opened the door to the PGA Tour. His career peak came at Royal Portrush in 2019, where he won The Open in front of a home crowd on the island of Ireland. He added the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in 2022.

Lowry is a feel player with an excellent short game and a strong record in tough conditions. He shot a major-record-tying 62 at the 2024 PGA Championship and holed the putt that clinched Europe's retention of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage in 2025. In September 2026 he won his national open for a second time, by a record eleven shots at Doonbeg.
